Fungi, yeasts and moulds are recognised as potential health hazards within the indoor environment if present in significant numbers. The organsisms and in particular spores and chemicals generated can cause allergic reaction to susceptible individuals and also be of concern to asthmatics and persons suffering from similar respiratory complaint.
In the typical office or home environment conditions are not normally favourable to the growth of these organisms, however, where there are damp conditions, for example due to unchecked water leaks, poor ventilation or post-flood damage fungi, yeasts and moulds cna quickly become established and multiply.
